Still Life with Toad and Pansy

A helpful pansy sheltering a large and rather lumpy toad under its leaves in the front garden.  I've never seen toads about so early in the spring -- by Friday it's supposed to reach the low 80's.

  1. What a great shot! Very nice looking toad, too. We have had them here, which I would not have expected. I found one in the dark when I was walking from the house to the shop. He jumped up and hit me in the leg - scared me good and proper! Most nights he would sit under the porch light to catch moths. Haven't seen or heard him in some years now. Sure wish another would come take up residence!

  2. Yes, I would imagine a toad smacking onto your leg in the dark would give you quite a jolt -- I didn't think they could get that far off the ground! Many of our toads live in our mountain of compost, so I have to be very careful when digging in there. Life gets complicated!
